The useful bit

A lift reshapes your own lashes. Extensions add fibres for a different level of length, texture and fullness.

Two different ways to define your eyes

A lash lift and a set of extensions can both make your lashes more noticeable, but they achieve that in different ways. A lift changes the shape of the lashes you already have. Extensions involve attaching additional fibres to natural lashes.

Neither is the automatic best choice. The more useful question is what you want to see in the mirror, and how much regular upkeep you want in your diary. Start there, then let your artist assess your natural lashes and talk through what is realistic.

When a lash lift may suit you

Consider a lift if you like the idea of enhancing your own lashes without wearing added fibres. The result works with your existing length and density, so it will not create the same effect as adding a set of extensions. Tint can add colour definition to the treatment.

Flirty offers a Signature lash lift and Premium Korean lash enhancement, both with tint. Our comparison of the two lift appointments explains what the menu includes. Ask your artist about the finish your lashes are likely to give, rather than expecting someone else’s before-and-after photograph.

When extensions may suit you

Extensions offer a broader conversation about added length, density and texture. If your aim is a very defined lash line, a particular wispy effect or a fuller finish, explore the extension menu with your artist.

You can begin with classic, hybrid and Russian volume styles, then refine the shape and length. An appointment name does not replace a consultation: your natural lashes still influence what can be applied appropriately.

Compare the upkeep, not just the first appointment

Extensions are maintained with infills as the set changes through wear and natural lash shedding. A lift grows out with the natural lashes rather than being maintained by replacing added fibres. Nouveau Lashes describes its own lift as a treatment that grows out naturally; the exact result and timing vary.

Both choices need aftercare. Ask about cleansing, makeup, swimming and your next treatment date before leaving. If your diary includes frequent travel, a swim schedule or a major event, mention it while choosing the appointment.

Make the decision in three questions

First, describe your preferred finish without using a treatment name. Second, decide how often you can comfortably return. Third, check what your artist recommends after looking at your lashes and discussing any sensitivities or previous treatments.

Read our patch-test guide, then compare the full treatment prices. If you remain undecided, contact Flirty Studios before selecting a service on Fresha. A short conversation about your routine is more useful than booking a treatment because it happens to be available first.
